Genoa – A new ship that will be delivered in 2029. A new vessel set for delivery in 2029 marks another major win for Genoa’s shipbuilding industry. T. Mariotti, part of the Gin Group, has signed what it describes as a “very important” contract for a ship to be built in the Ligurian capital’s industrial port area. While the shipyard has confirmed the deal, it has not disclosed the client or technical specifications. However, industry sources told Il Secolo XIX that the order is likely for a second super-luxury cruise ship for the Aman at Sea brand.
This would be Mariotti’s latest foray into the ultra-luxury segment, a niche it has cultivated following the delivery of Seabourn-branded Carnival Group ships in 2022 and 2023. The yard is currently building what will be the world’s most luxurious cruise ship for the ultra-exclusive Aman brand — owned jointly by Cruise Saudi and Aman Group — scheduled for delivery in 2027. The vessel, named Amangati, will be Mariotti’s first project for Aman at Sea. The hull is under construction in San Giorgio di Nogaro, with outfitting to take place in Genoa.
At 183 meters long and featuring just 50 suites, Amangati blurs the line between cruise ship and private yacht. The interiors are being crafted from bespoke materials for a clientele that, while targeted, remains new to the cruise market. The hull was laid in summer 2023 in San Giorgio di Nogaro and will be transported to Genoa in late 2025 for final outfitting with high-value furnishings and finishes.
Dual-Fuel Innovation and Ultra-Exclusive Amenities
Amangati will be the first of its kind to feature a dual-fuel propulsion system capable of running on both marine gasoil and methanol. Onboard facilities will include an Aman Spa with a Japanese garden, two helipads, and a stern Beach Club offering direct sea access. With fewer than 100 guests per voyage, the ship is designed for an intimate, high-end cruising experience. Bookings opened only days ago, with itineraries focusing on the Mediterranean.
Economic Impact on the Genoa Shipbuilding Cluster
Industry estimates value the new order at around €500 million. While unconfirmed, the need for a second unit fits perfectly with Aman at Sea’s expansion strategy in the hyper-luxury cruise market. For Genoa, the deal promises new jobs and work for the city’s industrial port supply chain.
The order will involve not only Mariotti’s own facilities but also a wide network of specialist subcontractors, including De Wave, Tecnavi, Wingeco, Ortec, Santamaria, Lagomarsino Anielli, and MCP. Mariotti reported strong results in 2024, with production value rising 19% to €169 million, EBITDA up 19% to €11.9 million, and direct headcount growing 24% to 142 employees.
Genoa is increasingly positioning itself as a key hub for specialized shipbuilding. While the available civil yard space is currently suited to small-scale or niche high-end builds, the military sector is following a similar path — producing high-tech vessels for the Italian Navy capable of handling diverse missions, including subsea operations, a growing frontier for industry, telecommunications, and defense. Expanding available yard space, industry leaders say, will be critical to capitalizing on demand and boosting the sector’s employment impact.
